Weather has been awful. High high winds and hot temps. Today in Salina it hit 100F.

Willie and our hired man have worked on our combines all week. It did not go well. Cut our first load of wheat late this afternoon. I guess our helper is NOT taking a vacation this year to help us. He will be around on his days off but that is it. My stress level just took a giant leap. I am sure his stress is much worse but he won’t talk about it. I have tried. We used to be a family farm but no longer. It is just him and me. No one to help, no one for backup. It drives me nuts. And as we get older, it is a big worry. But we will do what we can and have learned to survive without asking or expecting help.

Family reunion tomorrow. Wish I could skip it but since I am the president, I must be there. The cousin I like to sit with has decided not to attend and now my brother is not going. My son, husband or any other one close to me all refuse to go. But there will be great family from far away and lots of good food. Be glad when it is over.

Really should not be blogging when I am not feeling good. I will end with some photos from the past week.

Weather has been great. While quite warm, there is no humidity. In a wind warning all day. Chance of rain tomorrow. One can dream….

Had such a fun day today. Started with my Swedish group. My friends Janet, Jeanette, and Beth attended today. And they enjoyed it. Janet was surprised how many of our group she knew. And even Beth knew a couple. They are planning to return. And even want to plan to bring food for the group. Maybe this is the shot in the arm we need!!!

After we went to the Öl Stuga for lunch. Great sandwiches there!!! Then we walked across the street to the White Peacock for tea and something chocolate. We sat in the back room and were a bit rowdy!! What fun!!

Then I stopped at Lan’s garden to try to take some photos in the gale force winds. I am just soo stupid. I did get a few and a video. His garden is going to be breath-taking soon. It already is very cool. I saw something odd there. In one of the birdbaths, there were 2 honey bees at the edge of the water getting a drink. And then later I saw a hornet doing the same. A first for me.

I have a frustrating situation. Someone I sort of befriended and now truly regret has ingratiated himself into my life on FaceBook. He joined 2 groups of towns that I have or do live in. He has NO connection in any way to either of these places. He scans photos from some place where scanning is not allowed and then posts them as his own. And some of the ‘information’ he posts is wrong. I have corrected him and then he jumped on me in public. He has invented a ‘research’ group that he ‘works’ for. The group is a fantasy. Soon he will be asking people for money. He did this with another group. He had no need for money for anything. If anyone was stupid enough to give him a dime, it went in his pocket. I know a couple of people I know think he is so cool for posting these photos. I would like to tell them, but I do not want to look like I have an axe to grind with him and being petty. I warned my friends I was with today. They already had figured he was weird. It bothers me that he is every where I am on FB. I have blocked him from seeing most of what I post. I am hoping that others get a clue. I will not be meeting him for lunch anymore. Just too weird.

Weather has been great. While quite warm, there is no humidity. Even at 90F, feels ok outside. Really windy today with higher winds tomorrow.

Was supposed to meet grandson Chris for lunch today in Marquette at the Valley Café. He never showed. Called later to apologise. He only had 2 hours sleep in the last couple of days. Working too many hours. He crashed and burned today. That is ok.

I loved watching the wheat wave in the wind today. Did a short video of it. Harvest in about 2 weeks. I am definitely not ready. My back will never be ready. I had one nice year where daughter-in-law #2 helped me everyday. That was wonderful even if she turned out to be a horrible person later. Having someone to help cook and carry all the food, tables, chairs made harvest fun. One year out of 45. Sigh. I have no one at all to help and no back up at all. If I get sick or my back gets really bad, makes no difference. I still have to get food and deliver. I have started buying food more than I used to.

American Idol was disappointing tonite. I really wanted Phillip and Joshua to be in the finale. But great to see Lisa Marie Presley. So rare to see her. She is so beautiful and looks so like her father. And I always like seeing Adam Lambert. Next week will be exciting.

I was blessed again today. When I came home a Scissor Tailed Flycatcher sat on our fence for me and posed. Such a lovely bird. They rarely come near the house. Second time he has done this. Very nice.

Weather has been great. Cool, cloudy, no wind. No rain. It is sooo dry now. Wheat is really hurting. I think my county is like 4” on the minus side this month. And this is one of our wettest months. Not this year.

Monday I went with Naomi and Dirk and a friend of theirs to Galva KS to eat lunch at Hungry Manns. The special was chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and a roll. It was perfect!!! When we went home, I bought 2 huge cinnamon rolls for supper. I was hoping that Willie did not want his. Ha. They were yummy. Definitely going back there.

Tuesday I had acupuncture. I have started going every 2 weeks again. I seem to feel better. Still have back pain often but a bit less. Mostly when standing. Or lifting. I am able to turn over in bed without as much pain. Ain’t life good?

Today was our Knitting Café at the Lindsborg Library. I really enjoy being there. Quiet and relaxing. And with nice ladies. Although today I was stressed. Got a knot in my thread twice and would not undo. And I made several errors. But I still loved being there.

I took myself out to lunch at Jalisco’s. Then went into work at the Red Barn Studio. I was there for a webinar. Had the time wrong do we missed part of it. But it was our first try.

I took some back roads home. Saw some new wildflowers, herd of sheep, and some goats. Made for a nice end to the day.

Weather has been great. Cool, cloudy, no wind. No more rain. Of course. Some of our wheat is ok but some of it is bad. Such is the life of a farmer.

Saturday I worked at the Red Barn Studio in Lindsborg. It was sooo quiet. No tours, no calls. I got a lot of computer work done.

After work I stopped at Lan’s garden with my camera. I did not see that he was home so he caught me trespassing!! But he gave me a big hug so it was well worth it. Then I went back to Coronado Heights with fresh batteries in my camera. Took some nice photos. It was very crowded up there. That is good. Feel safer in a crowd.

Back to work today. The day started with a group of 4 in for a tour. One couple was local but they were older than me in school so do not really know them. But today we got acquainted. The husband’s sister and her husband were the other couple. I remembered her. Nice people. After that, no one. Nothing. It was ok to have a quiet weekend. Gave me time to visit with out artist in residence, Sandy Milroy. Her art is awesome. She does paper collages with the most exquisite papers. Looks so easy but …. I have yet to try. I should.

Today was Mother’s Day here in the US. I was a bit depressed about it. I miss my mom. I have a daughter who has not spoken to me and Willie in over 20 years. She lives near here so I go look at her but it stops there. Her choice. But I shed no tears and the day was much better than I expected. Son Bill called at noon. We will meet next weekend. Grandson Chris called later. We have lunch plans on thursday. When I got home Willie had got me a lovely bouquet of flowers. And even took me out to eat. A good day.

Weather has been great. Cool, cloudy, no wind. And tonite we had rain. A heavy downpour for a while. Love it. Hope more develops overnite.

This morning was my Swedish group in Lindsborg. We had a program about the Bohuslän area. Very interesting. Not many there but that is ok. We had fun. Those that missed, their loss.

I took myself out to eat at Jalisco’s, Third time this week. I love the food but really love the people. They are just very nice to me. Need that sometimes.

Sort of dreading the weekend. Working both days at the Red Barn Studio in Lindsborg. Hoping for a very very quiet weekend. Sunday is Mother’s Day in the US. No celebration this weekend for me. And no lunch out. Probably won’t eat out sunday evening either. Oh well. It will be fine.

I stopped on Coronado Heights to take photos on the way home. The yucca plants were blooming. Very cool to see. And a few other wild flowers also. And then my camera’s batteries died. Again. Will go back soon!

Weather has been quite nice again. A little warmer today but still nice. Cooler tomorrow with maybe a shower or two. I sure hope so.

Last sunday in Lindsborg at the Red Barn Studio we celebrated Cinco de Mayo. There is lots of Mexican food, Mexican beer, wines, coffee. Had a good crowd. Some how I never feel comfortable there. Sort of like an outsider. I did have a couple of friends I sat with and that sure helped. Nice conversation.

Monday got my hair coloured, cut, and styled. I had gotten to the point where I was hating it. Changed the cut a bit and I am happier.

Tuesday I met Janet, Beth, and Marian for lunch in Salina at Bogey’s. The weather was so awesome we sat outside on the patio to eat. Nice. Good food and good company.

Tuesday evening was the Smoky Valley Historical Association meeting. Took myself to eat my evening meal at Jalisco’s. Mmm. During the board meeting I was voted back on for 3 years. I took the place of a friend who became ill and could not finish his term. One of the other members told me I was actually now on for eternity!!! The program was John Burchill who gave a talk on anti-horse thief associations of the past. It was very interesting!

Yesterday I met Sally for lunch at Jalisco’s. Janie came in and we invited her to join us. Had great food and wonderful conversation. This has been a great week!

Today I worked at the Red Barn Studio. I got there around 12n. Had a tour group coming around 1230 ---- 17 5th graders. Sometimes groups are early so I was ready. Cris got there not long after me. And then we sat and waited. And waited. They finally showed up at 120pm. And they left the studio at 130pm. What a waste of time. They apologised. They had stayed too long somewhere else. Sheesh.

Stopped at the Meditation Garden at the Methodist Church next to the studio. Took some photos of the flowers there, but not many. My camera’s batteries died. I was cut short. Dang.

Weather is hot again. Miserable weather. Far too hot far too soon, Our wheat is really changing. Harvest will soon be upon us. In the photo below, our wheat is the furthest seen, and the lightest. The closest is our neighbours. We need rain soon. Some of our wheat is dying now. May be a less than stellar crop. See if the rain comes.

Friday was my Swedish group. We are dwindling but I am enjoying those who come each week. We were at the local library in Lindsborg this past week. We all grabbed a Swedish book and shared. We had such good conversation amongst our group. I feel sorry for those who choose to be too busy to join us. They are missing out on some nice time.

For lunch I went to Salina and met 4 friends at Moka’s. Great food and better company. We talked and laughed for 4 hours. These friends keep me sane and happy. I have so many negative feelings, etc. it is so nice to relax and have some fun.

Today I worked at the Red Barn Studio. I was busy from the moment I got there. Eleven people came in. No one wanted a ‘real’ tour so I followed them and answered questions. Wish they had all come in at once, but they dribbled in all afternoon. There was a class with out artist in residence too. They were doing metal work. And very very noisy!!! I even sold about $150 worth of art. That was fun!!!

Weather is hot again. And is supposed to be through the weekend. Joy.

Today was the Knitting Café. I was going to go but decided against it. I coughed a lot yesterday and just wanted to stay home. I do miss being there. Nice company and relaxing time.
