Stranded at home....

Weather is back to cloudy and rainy. Had frost overnite. We may never get our wheat sowed!

I am still without car. Will maybe start on it tomorrow. I was home all day --- no lunch, no unlocking the Red Barn, no nothing. It was ok.

The docent never showed today. Her grandson became ill and his mom just could not stay home to take care of him. Cared more about her job than her sick kid. So our docent took off on thursday never giving a thought to her responsibilities. A simple call and I would have found someone to work for her. I learned a long time ago that no one is indispensible. Used to have a few at the hospital that came to work no matter how sick they were or how bad the weather was or whatever. One of the sensible staff asked them what would happen if they dropped dead. Would the hospital then have to close its doors? Every job has ways for their employees to take an occasional day or two off. Trying to have someone work at the studio on sundays is like nailing jello to a tree. I send out a schedule. I call the appointed one every single week. And they can still not show up. Or call on saturday nite to cancel out and never make an attempt to all anyone but leave it to me to fix.

I took a walk in the rain today and took some photos. Our one tree that has leaves that turn has made the ground look pretty colourful. And I played a bit with PSP. Nice to do nothing.

Two bad days...

Weather dry and colder then a bit warmer. We saw some sun both today and yesterday.

Swedish group --- it was awful. Cannot talk about it at all. I was stressed from the first minute until I left. Not a good day.

Friday evening John and I ventured to Wichita for an art opening. First we ate at the Texas Roadhouse. I have never ever had a better steak. Perfect. It was crowded and loud, but we liked it. Every so often the wait staff all stopped serving and danced in the aisles. Just fun.

Art showing was my friend David Friday and another artist Elly Fitzig. Great art. David took a photo of mine of thistles and made a painting. I bought it!! Very cool.

Then. The drive home. We barely got out of Wichita and my car engine made a horrid sound that we first thought was a blow out. But then it made this horrid popping sound that never quit. I managed to make it to a rest area and called Willie. We left the car there. Today he and a friend hauled it home. Our mechanic bought the parts to fix it so hopefully monday nite or tuesday I can have it back. What a nite.

today was not much better. John drove out to pick me up for lunch and work. We ate at Jalisco’s. Good eats and another friend Jerry joined us. Had not seen him for a while.

Then. Went to work at the Red Barn. And awful awful day. Cannot now go into details but it was not good. And on top of all the bad, I was busy. Twelve tours, Marsha was there for a while, and so was the president of the board. Good to see them both.

I was exhausted and came home to take a nap. Willie fixed chili for supper. Very good and perfect weather for it.

Last season futbol game before the play-offs. Gotta love the internet. watching it live online. Great picture this week with little lag time. Exciting game that we won!!!

Wednesday/thursday

Weather turned rainy on wednesday. Today is foggy and misty. And cold!! It is 39F now. And with the strong winds it feels much much colder. The sky looked like snow. Western Kansas had 3-4 inches of snow. Eastern Colorado had 8-12 inches of snow.

Had lunch with a friend at Applbee’s on wednesday. Good eats – good conversation.

I ventured into Vita Villa and stocked up on all the suggestions of what to take to help prevent H1N1. Most likely I will not be able to get a shot against it.

In the rain I drove through a park and took some cool photos. The photo at the top looks like the goose had water spraying out his ears!

Today I had breakfast with a friend in Assaria at a great place. It is located in an old school house. It is full of old photos, travel posters, and antiques. Great place.

I went to my acupuncturist for her patient open house. Got a free treatment. She has a new med that is to help with weight loss and energy. Took one when I got home. Later I felt really strange. Thought it was my blood sugar but it was fine. Got ok later. I had bought now vitamin water and drank some with supper. Felt strange again. Maybe the water?? Water in trash. Will try pill on sunday. Too busy to experiment until then.

Quiet day before the rains come...

Weather continues to be really windy, really warm. In the 70s again today. But it is coming to an end. Western Kansas is in the 40s. There is heavy fog there also. Wish we could get a little fog here. Such a rare happening. Rain is to start around midnite with possible heavy rains tomorrow.

I have no plans today. Except to strive to be the best couch potato ever!! Rest of the week is busy.

Willie is working overtime sowing wheat. Wants to get as much done as possible before the rains hit. And then we hope it does not wash the seeds away.

Heard our new kittens today but have not seen them yet. Should be almost ready to venture out. Hope they are all little boys!!!

Sunday & Monday

Weather has been really windy. Sunday was clear but late monday afternoon clouds were forming. Rain is to start tuesday nite. Wish it would wait a week.

Met John, Sally, and Paul sunday noon at Pizza Hut. Sally & I tried to recreate the awesome pizza we had in Phoenix. Got close. Not quite as good but ok.

Sunday was day to work at the Red Barn. It was really slow until about 330pm. Had 5 people come in for tours. They were very nice and left nice donations. I got out late though.

Today I met a classmate from high school for lunch. She was back here for a birthday celebration. I don’t think we had seen each other in maybe 20 yrs. LOTS of catching up to do. we met in Salina at Chili’s. Sat for for 4 hours and talked!!! Good time.

Tonite was my movie class. Watched a very very controversial movie. I do not think any of us enjoyed it. It did make a point, but there surely could have been a different way to do that. Had some really great stars in it, but that did not help at all. Movie called Crash from 1996. The only good thing was a young James Spader. But his character was sooo flawed.

17/10/09 Work & Birthday

Weather was gorgeous today. Sunny with no wind. Air felt pretty chilly but still nice. Had some unexpected last nite. Need. Dry. Weather.

I worked today. It was quiet early so I accomplished quite a bit. I got a thing to play my iPod on and it works great. I had music today. MY music!! Very nice. I gave 5 tours. They were all very nice people. They were all amazed at the amount of art in the Red Barn. And that it was all done by just one man.

Tonite Willie & I ate at Red Lobster. It is his birthday today. He has said for several days that he did not want to go out. I encouraged him to ask his friends to join us but he did not. we ate good. He had steak and shrimp. I had grilled salmon covered in a shrimp sauce with rice. Excellent. Sad thing. Our son conveniently forgot that he has a father. He will be sorry some day.

On the way home we were going around 55 or 60 mph. Suddenly a deer appeared along the side of the road. Willie slammed on the road. She calmly walked across the road and we missed her by a couple of inches. I was shaky for a while. I have hit a deer before and it is scary.

I am freezing tonite. Not so cold outdoors but I am freezing. Cannot get warm. Weatherman just said it is to get warmer overnite. Hmmm.

Soccer team played tonite. Of course, no tv coverage here. They were in Kansas City. Would be fun to see them but will never happen. Important game and they won. I will watch the tape of it tomorrow. It runs at 1am. Lovely. Now we get to go to the play offs. With the final match in our stadium. How fun!

16/10/09 Warmer and a good day.......

Weather was gorgeous today. A bit warmer with sun. No wind. Very nice.

Had Swedish group today. Great food and a good program about St. Bridget’s Church in town. It is a catholic church named after a Swedish saint, St. Bridget. A girl I grew up with has moved back to town. Name is Gretchen. She has lived in Sweden. She has agreed to be our new Swedish teacher at group. Great!!! I can do lessons but my accent sucks. Big time!!

I had a great lunch with Naomi today. We sat and talked for a long time. Best part of today!! Good food also. Grandson fixed it!! He came out several times to give me a hug or two.

I took Chris to run a couple of errands. Next week he said he will come out to help me move stuff to my storage shed. Great.

I got a couple of fun things in the mail today. I can now listen to my iPod in my car and at work. I have a player here at home but too large to carry to work. Found a small cheap one on eBay. Will be nice to hear music that I want not what some radio station offers. And here it is mostly country music. Silence is better. Or talk radio that is only the far right fringe. Or classical which is ok for a while.

Monas Dare - Anything orange

This little "Game", "Competition" or whatever I shall call it - it is not a contest! I came up with this idea (Maybe some will think it is corny... silly or whatever, but then they do not have to join so there! lol) I just thought this could be a fun way to get to know each other, get our inspiration going and use our cameras or painting programs!

I call this game "I dare you!" and every Friday I will dare you to show me something! (Nothing nude or nasty!!) Obviously it has to be your own photos, or graphics!

I changed one thing, it doesn't have to be a NEW photo, you can pick any photo or graphics you have!

This Friday I will make it an easy one, show me anything orange.

Still cold

Weather is still quite cool but dry. We were supposed to have sunshine by 4pm. Photo of sky taken at 430pm. Hmmm. Saw some sun by 630pm. Warmer weather coming but next week is cool and wet again.

I met our artist in residence Rodger for lunch today. He was on his way home to Iowa. I will miss him. I ate lunch food with him. Then Sally and Bunny came in to eat and I had fried ice cream for dessert. Mmmm!! Photo is from the internet. Mine looked pretty close!!

Marsha called me in to work today.  She and Mary had a meeting in Wichita. Don’t remember what for. I am just the saturday girl and fill in girl. I had a stack of folders of art owners to file so got caught up on that. And a friend came in to chat with Marsha but ended up chatting with me. A very pleasant break!!

Had to call my son this morning about a fax that came while I was in Phoenix. There was no paper in my machine and I saw the light blinking on it and there was a fax ---- for him. I called to relay the message on it. He had no clue that I was in Arizona for a week. I emailed both him and his wife. Plus she is on FaceBook and I mentioned it there often. Just sayin’.

13/10/09 Cold and rainy

Weather is cold and rainy. Jo refuses to go out alone. She can just hear it thunder. it has not but might tonite. I was out in it briefly. Jo has the right idea as the photo shows below. Willie seems to agree with Jo. I have no plans but laundry and KP duty.
