Monas Dare – Fall/autumn photos

This little "Game", "Competition" or whatever I shall call it - it is not a contest! I came up with this idea (Maybe some will think it is corny... silly or whatever, but then they do not have to join so there! lol) I just thought this could be a fun way to get to know each other, get our inspiration going and use our cameras or painting programs!

I call this game "I dare you!" and every Friday I will dare you to show me something! (Nothing nude or nasty!!) Obviously it has to be your own photos, or graphics!

I changed one thing, it doesn't have to be a NEW photo, you can pick any photo or graphics you have!

This Friday I will make it an easy one, show me any fall/autumn photos.

Leave the link HERE in my comments so I can come and see!

My entry is a photo from a couple of years ago of a street in Lindsborg with the turning leaves. Still a bit early here for turning leaves although some are just barely changing. Our weather is very autumn-like though.

Meeting & errands

If your name is Gerhard or Gert, then today is your day!

It sure continues to feel like autumn. It was 42F this morning. I hated to crawl out of bed. There is rain on the way. Could see the cloud bank all day.

I had to get up early for a meeting at the Red Barn. Getting ready for the Christmas artist’s open house event. After the meeting I had to head to Salina to buy plates, napkins, etc. for an open house after a talk at the Red Barn.

I had lunch at Sonic. I ate half of what I ordered so I could have some ice cream afterwards. It was worth it.

Tried to sit outside tonite. It was quite cool and yet those damned mosquitoes are still flying….in swarms. They swarm towards my face. Sheesh.

Glad the ‘usual’ tv shows are returning. Tonite was Gray’s Anatomy. Had to sit with a box of Kleenexes. Sad, sad episode. Of course, Willie likes no show that I like. It was liked I was asking him to jump off a cliff to watch it tonite. Yet he thinks nothing of making me watch, well rather endure, nascar and the western channel. Have to try acting like him next time!

Lynn SunFlower asked if I had seen snow yet…..

I have not but here is a poem concerning snow.

Together

With unequivocal geometry, the sun

rises golden, tempts today on earth’s rim

and, by chance, we also see a silver moon

withstand an early wash of light.

Poets, of course, know it could be two faces

or an asymmetrical dumb-bell, levers

on a pivotal now

or Cyclops’ eyeing out from rounded caves.

We walk along after February snow,

kick drifts forwards and backwards, roll flakes into

unique snowballs

and chuck them at each other with intent

when, in mid air, two snowballs stop, hover;

pupils dilate and finally – finally - we know nothing.

22/09/09 Autumn arrives amid cold and rain

If your name is Maurits or Moritz, then today is your day!

Autumn arrives today at 418pm (my time). And it sure feels like autumn. It is only 58F here now at noon & it has been raining lightly. I was freezing so I turned on our portable heater. Feeling better. The skies look the same to day as yesterday. We had half an inch of rain yesterday morning. Friends near us had an inch, but near McPherson I saw fields that were flooded. Must have dumped rain there. And in McPherson I saw a tree whose leaves are just starting to change. Cool!

Yesterday was a full day. I had errands at 2 banks and my pharmacy. Then off to acupuncture. After my treatment I got so dizzy. I felt ok sitting and driving but when standing was light-headed. I think I just had not drank enough before my treatment. After eating supper and drinking lots of coke, I was fine.

I owed Sally some money for an upcoming trip so we had a nice visit and with one of her workmates. And while there found out there is a problem with some insurance that goes with Willie’s medicare. We supposedly had this coverage for 2 years and now they are saying WE cancelled it 2 years ago. Sooo. I just called and got someone with a strong accent I could not understand. She asked for info from our card that was labeled totally different than what was there. *I* could not ask about my own husband without his permission. He had to verbally give it. What if he had a stroke and could not talk? Well, we have the official card and at no time were we notified it was not valid. What an idiotic way to run a business. And proceeded to tell her so. She said she will forward this info to the enrollment department. I told her we will be lucky if we hear from them within 2 years or ever. I am sooo pi$$ed off.

Yesterday evening I met Eric for supper at Jalisco’s and then we went to class. It was a night of discussion and movie clips. Good evening.

Yesterday I had to order some flower arrangements for Swedish group this friday. I took a wonderful photo inside the flower shop and also of the winery window.

Today is a quiet day with no plans.

Too tired for words

If your name is Elise or Lisa, then today is your day!

Our nice autumn weather continues, but a cold front is already at Goodland KS. Rain approaches with much colder weather.

Here is the first thing I saw when I got to Lindsborg this morning. How cool is that??

I had lunch with Paul, Sally, and John at Season’s. Great food. Had some great conversations. John has 2 art openings coming up next year. I plan to go to both. The first in next june in Red Cloud NE and the second is the following autumn in McPherson KS at the McPherson Opera House.

Then I had to work. Found out only on saturday that a huge tour was coming in on sunday. Our present CVB person never told us. CVB means convention visitor bureau. So Marsha and I elected to come in to work. We had no idea what time but heard there would be 40 people. Later heard 3pm. IF we had not found out, our poor docent would have been left alone and unaware. I did not want to unlock at 1pm and then drive home only to drive back. I thought I could put on my iPod and work on thank yous. Ha. Marsha came in as we got a new painting to sell for a private collector. Mary came in to organise/clean our office. Brad came in to help hang the painting. It was like Grand Central Station.

Well, I did get 30 thank you letters finished and mailed. The tour group was late and showed at 330pm. Marsha and I divided the first batch of 22. The second batch was 13 and I did them alone. then 2 more straggled in late and I gave them a mini-tour. I was tired.

Here is our new painting. It hangs by where I sit and I love it!!! And it could be mine for a mere $28,000. Probably not gonna happen.

Willie had a choice of fixing supper himself or going to town. We went to Salina to Logan’s Roadhouse to eat. I got shrimp and fries. The shrimp was beyond huge, more like prawns. They were just ok.

Funeral, work, futbol

If your name is Fredricka, then today is your day!

Our nice autumn weather continues. Rain is forecast for monday and the high on tuesday is only 60F. Break out the sweaters!!! I will love it!

Had a funeral of a friend this morning. He had not been well but hard to let go. He did so much good in the world. he gaves lots and lots of money to the college, nursing home, church, etc. I have only heard 2 people who did not like him and talked bad about him. I always wanted to ask them what they had done to make the world a better place laterly? (Answer is nothing.) It was a nice funeral but the pastor I cannot tolerate. He is so disrespectful of the church. He it the altar candles and he showed absolutely no respect. It was like he was lighting fire at the burn barrel. Most pastors I know when they get near the altar will bow and maybe say a short prayer. He was running all over and never cared a whit. Sermon was so-so but he seemed to make himself the subject of it often. When it was time to eat lunch, he literally yelled for the family to go first and go now. The idiot failed to notice the family was still outside. It was like being in a train station.

We never stayed to eat. I had to rush home and get ready to go to work. Faster to get food at home. Work was quiet. Gave 3 tours and they were not real interested so they got the short version. But they did leave a donation.

Then groceries and home. With my feet up!! I taped my Sounders soccer game, but barely got the first half watched. Phone calls, Willie coming home, fixing supper. I finally gave up. Will see it later. I already know all the details. I am on Twitter with many of the sports reporters, fans, etc. And they Tweet all the details as it happens.

Just got word that a local tv channel is doing a piece tonite on the McPherson Opera House. And my friend and classmate John was the fund raiser person for it and is now president of it. I bet he is in it. I will tape it as Willie is watching football.

Birthday celebration and ALLY

If your name is Hildegard or Magnhild, then today is your day!

Our nice autumn weather continues. No rain until first of next week. Just too nice for words.

Earlier this week was my friend Naomi’s birthday so today I took her to Salina to celebrate. Made a quick stop at Office Max. She needed something for her mom and I needed dvd’s to burn and the software to burn them with. Then it was off to Napoli’s for lunch. She had lasagna and I had shrimp alfredo. All very good. Good lunch with a great friend!!!

We then went to KWU for an art show. Artist is from India and all her work has a political statement within it. Awesome work.

There is always some work in the hall of the art building by students. It was all great also. I was hoping the director of the art department would be there but his office was dark. I know him and was sorry I missed him.

We ended our time together with dessert and drinks at Moka’s. Too good for words!! Mocha’s has great food for lunch, coffees, teas, etc., homemade desserts of all kinds. Being in it you cannot believe you are still in Salina. Seems more like being in Kansas City or Denver.

Tonite was the first ALLY meeting of the year on the Bethany College campus. I missed them last year, not too active. Hope this year is better. There is a new student life dean and he had some great ideas. I had not met him before. And as a non-traditional student, he said he could help me live on campus. Cool! He thought he would put me in one of the apartments. Suppose Willie will miss me????

After our meeting, Elly and I walked around the campus. Lots of wonderful new things there. I took many photos. Nice ending to a nice day.

Lunch and errands

If your name is Dag or Daga, then today is your day!

Our nice autumn weather continues. No rain until first of next week. It can last forever!

Went to Salina to have lunch with Connie. We ate at Applebee’s. Great food. Nice conversation.

Then I ran errands at Walgreen’s. Did not need anything too special but love to browse there.

I was all ready to burn all my photos to dvd’s. No software to burn with. Downloaded one but kept getting errors. Decided to try an empty dvd and I have none. Not happy. Should be sooo easy. Look on old laptop to see what I used. And try again. And buy more dvd’s tomorrow.

Went through old magazines and mail this afternoon. Now there is more room in here!!

My friend Beth on FaceBook had some old family and Falun photos. What memories!! And I learned a few Falun facts I never knew. She was sad to hear about our fuel being stolen. We remember a really nice Falun. We have lost our school, bank, restaurant, co-op, implement dealership. There were some really nice homes that are now in shambles. Very sad. We have a highway patrolman living across the street from our building where the robbery took place. Crooks are pretty brazen sometimes.
