Busy times

If your name is Sigrid or Siri, then today is your day!

Our nice autumn weather continues. The rain is over for a while and it stays cool at nite and pleasant during the day.

Yesterday I splurged and had a pedicure and then a hair cut and style. Nice to be pampered. Looked and felt nice.

Had movie class last nite. The first 2 real students --- Katie and Ty --- I just knew I knew them. Katie takes the money in the college caf and Ty sat near me in the Messiah a couple of years ago. This is his last year. He is so nice. Had another real student last nite. His name is Cedric. The movie we watched was The Women. It was a bit long but good. The entire cast --- including animals --- was all women.

Today I went in to work for a tour bus from Missouri. There was about 25. Marsha and I divided them. They were all older. Some groups are ok but rarely. Sort of interested but not overly so. And they rarely leave any donations.

After the tour I met Sally for a nice leisurely lunch. And a short visit with Chris when the kitchen slowed down.

Willie is getting ready to sow wheat. He went to our building in Falun to get our trucks. Some terribly nice person who lives there had syphoned all the fuel out of both trucks. How nice is that? I wonder if there is actually any nice decent people living there? I am sure they are destitute and needed it more than us. Jerks.

Quiet day with cats and mushrooms

If your name is Sture, then today is your day! I knew a Sture in Alingsås. He was a jewel.

I met John, Paul, and Sally for lunch at the college caf. Great to have it open again and to go there. Then I had to go to the Red Barn to unlock and turn the alarm off. Did not take long.

Then to Sally’s. I helped her with organising her photos in Flickr and to then send photos in a certain set to someone. Then home after a spin around the lake where they live.

I watched some tennis and took a nap. Then outside. I found a ton of mushrooms and one gigantic one. It was huge!! And a few flowers. Only 2 cats joined me in my travels tonite. Probably because Jo was in the area. Last nite she was with Willie somewhere.

here is the Giant Mushroom.

Tonite Willie has that awful western channel on. Thank God for iTunes and headphones!!! Although the one on now has Tom Selleck. At least he is easy on the eyes.

Picture of the Month - August

Every first Friday of each month, Picture of The Month will take place here.

Choose one picture that best portrays what you’ve been up to that month.

It can be an artistic piece, a non-artistic one, an abstract, a landscape, titled, untitled… feel free, but tell us the little story behind it –why you chose that specific shot, how you took it,

or any other aspect you’d like to share about it.

Make sure you publish it for everyone and please leave the link to your post on Dani's and others' posts.

Ready? Set?… Shoot!!!"

August was a month of taking the road less travelled in pursuit of flowers, horses, or whatever Here is one of those flowers.

Slow at work, wonderful futbol day!

If your name is Åsa or Åslög, then today is your day! It was my friend Åsa’s namndag!! Grattis!

Our weather was ok today. Had rain overnite, about a half inch. Stayed mostly cloudy all day.

The photo above I took at the Red Barn. With my eyes, I could not see the lines or rays or whatever coming from the window. There was no sun today, it was cloudy. Work today was a bit spooky. There are some heavy metal things from India that were moving. I had a friend with me who saw it. We had not walked near them. There was no door or wíndow open and no fans on. And they kept on for a long time. After my friend moved, I kept hearing many strange sounds. An active day.

Had to work this afternoon. Got labels ready for the last 80 cards I have to mail. Marsha is going to print the message on the cards and I will address and stamp them next monday. THEN I am done! No one came in for a tour. It was quiet. Had my iPod with me so I could listen to music I liked. Nice.

When I was at home, the cats and I took a walk down the drive way. They were running all over the place! And between my legs. I almost fell once. I took some photos. I saw 14 doves on our electrical lines at one time. It is hunting season on them so they hang around our yard where it is safe. I would ban all hunting if I could. Most hunt for blood-thirsty reasons, not for food.

Tonite was my futbol game. And God forbid I could actually see it live on the tv. I had it set to tape. There was no mention of money. One minute in, it went black. Had to pay or else not see it until 1am. Then I found it broadcast live on the internet. Amazing. And a great game it was. Beat a nasty team whose goalie deliberately stomped on one of our players and injured him a couple of weeks ago. Sweet victory. And he was really pi$$ed.

Nice day, good friends

If your name is Dagny or Helny, then today is your day!

Our weather started out very foggy. I went out early to take a couple of shots. No rain though.

Swedish club today. We had a banner crowd!! With guests, a total of 31! It was great!! My cousin Kathryn showed slides from her trip to France and Sweden with some of her family. Kathryn’s husband was severely injured in France in WWII and they went to visit where he had been and the spot he got shot at. Then on to Sweden to visit some of his family. He died a couple of years ago. The slides were great! Right now I am listening to Jan Bengtsson, flutist, with some Real Group in the background. Makes me sooo homesick…… And seeing all the great photos today did not help.

In town here, we are completely redoing the city building. It is very old and historic. I hope they do not destroy anything valuable inside it.

After club I went to eat with Naomi and a new friend Sheila at the Swedish Crown. I had a hot beef sandwich. Very good. It was a great lunch with lots of interesting conversation. And fun to get to know someone new. I hope I get to spend some time with her again. And Naomi and I hope to go to Wichita soon to check out a bakery called Two Sisters. Mmmmm.

Then home. I have stamps so need to finish up the last of my postcards for work. More to do tomorrow. Yikes!!

Today is 9-11. I choose not to think of it and I never watch anything about it. I prefer to move on instead of dwelling in the past. It is also the day that Anna Lindh was murdered in Sweden. I also hate to be reminded that because of 9-11 our country attacked a country that did nothing to us. We were lied to. Very sad.

By the time I returned home tonite there were some clouds around. Now there is very heavy rain to the far south of us. Moving our way. A wet weekend is forecast.

10/09/09 Huge tour

If your name is Tord or Turid, then today is your day!

Our weather started out rather foggy this morning. No rain though. Stayed mostly cloudy today.

I met Sally for lunch at Jalisco’s. It was just us. Kind of nice to be just the two of us. Usually there are several others with us. I am quite proud of me. My fave waiter asked me in Spanish what I wanted to drink and I answered him in Spanish. I even ordered my meal in Spanish. Did not think I was trainable!!

I worked this afternoon. We had a huge tour group coming in. Said they would be ther at 130pm but were almost an hour late. There was supposed to be 35 but ended up with 50. Yikes!! Mary and I each took 25. Even that is too many to handle but it went ok.

Then I was off to Salina. Needed printer ink and a case for my iPod. Tonite I added 2 more cd’s to it and then I bought two cd’s by Carola. I was suprised they had anythng by her!!

When I got home from Salina, the clouds were clearing and there was some sun out. Sat outside with Willie, Jo, the cats, and a large cup of Bailey’s. My right thigh has just about killed me today. Think it was sitting in the backseat of a small car going to Denver and back. May have to call my acupuncturist if it does not get better.

The top photo is a hawk that posed for me this afternoon. As soon as I took his photo, he flew away.

09/09/09 Wichita

If your name is Anita or Annette, then today is your day!

Made a trip to Wichita today. The day started with cloudy weather. no rain on the radar but it showered on the way there.

I took my brother Jay out for his birthday. We ate at On the Border, a Mexican place. I got some chicken with honey chipotle sauce. It was really good! But. The salsa with the chips, the chipotle sauce and the corn bread was all HOT. I like hot, but these were all a bit too hot. I had heartburn tonite. Would still order it again, but would take some zantac first!!

The i had a painting to deliver to a lawyer. No clue how to get to her office. Sooo. I used my GPS. I felt like I was going in circles, but it took us there. I found a much simpler way when we left but when you are clueless, the GPS works.

I did some shopping at Food for Thought, a health food place. Grabbed some lime rice chips that I am addicted to. And a jar of peach-mango salsa. Plus a bottle of Vit. D3. It is supposed to help prevent the flu.

I took Jay to a cemetery where a grandmother from a couple of generations is buried. And so is her daughter, son-in-law, and maybe her husband.

Then to my diabetic dr’s office for a flu shot. They are saying to get your flu shot now and the H1N1 in a month or so later. In Lindsborg they are not offering any kind of flu shot until nov. 1. And who knows what kind. The news also said that the flu shot is supposed to be effective for an entire year.

Then returned home. We drove in showers off and on. by the time I got to my farm, the sun was out. A good day.

Labor Day Weekend

If your name is Anita or Annette, then today is your day!

Made a fast trip to Denver last saturday. Went with Sally & Paul, their son Jordy, his g.f. Rosie. We left saturday after Sally & I got off work. We stopped in Hays, Colby, and Limon. We stayed with Paul’s cousin Sheryl. She has a gorgeous home full of antiques. Very nice there.

On sunday we had Swedish pancakes with lingon, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, and juice on the back patio. It sooo nice and cool and fresh out. Sally and her 8 siblings met for a reunion on the anniversary of her mom’s passing ten years earlier. Sheryl and I went antiquing. If I had a trailer and several thousand dollars, what fun I could have had!!! For supper Sheryl made quesedillas with peach-mango salsa and sour cream. Heavenly.

Monday we were up at 530 am. Had kringler for breakfast. More heaven!!! We drove to Ft Collins to the Colorado State University campus for the annual Colorado Run. Sally’s family run in the 5K every year. Paul and I competed in chair sitting and tied for first place!! The atmosphere was great. Every one had a dog with them. And a few even raced. Then we headed for home!

Trip home was good. Drove through a bad storm in western Kansas --- high winds, blowing dirt, then blowing rain. Got home around 8pm. I died in bed around 1opm.

See my photos here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/g5inger/sets/72157622189418747/

04/09/09 Rain and laptop

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Gisela, then today is your day!

Weather has been so nice! There was so many storm warnings out last nite and we got nothing. First batch went west of us and the second batch went east of us. but around 430am we had rain, one and a half inches!! It stayed cloudy and very cool today --- 70f was the high! I am loving this weather. There was a bit of flooding in town.

Had Swedish group today. We are having someone from all the churches come talk to us about their church --- how it formed, any connection to Sweden or our settlers. Today was Pr. Chris Matthews from a new Baptist church in town. It is only 10 years old. He was interesting. Had his wife and 3 little girls with him. The girls were good as gold. One has reddish hair that is a mass of curls. Oh, how jealous I am of her!!

Had lunch at Jaliscos with John and Sally. I keep learning a bit of Spanish every day. I can now order my diet soda in Spanish. I am proud. And when David Perez was here he helped me some.

I had a call from CompuDoc this morning that my laptop was done. So off to Salina to pick it up. They had to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall Windows. They did save all my photos and documents. I am sooo relieved. I have reinstalled a few things. Safari, Paint Shop Pro, Windows Live Writer. I have some of my bookmarks again in Safari. They installed a 30 day version of Kaspersky Internet Security for me. I can the full version for $60 and it can be used on 3 pcs. I have 3 but going to shut one down. The desktop is going to go. My older laptop can take its place.

Tonite I am getting ready for travel. Heading to Denver for a couple of days. Going with Sally. She is meeting her sisters there. I am spending time with Paul’s cousin. Time is so limited that I will not be seeing my own family there. I am going back soon. I am sick of being tied down to here. I truly need a break. My bag is packed. Just need to finish the other one that has stuff I use every day. Hair is washed. Did fingernails yesterday and toenails tonite. Clothes laid out. just have to work tomorrow afternoon and then off we go.

I am not blogging until late tuesday or wednesday. But I will Twitter and send a photo now and then. And Twitter goes to FaceBook but not here. I think I can write a note here from my phone and will try.

Monas Dare - Water Feature

This little "Game", "Competition" or whatever I shall call it - it is not a contest! I came up with this idea (Maybe some will think it is corny... silly or whatever, but then they do not have to join so there! lol) I just thought this could be a fun way to get to know each other, get our inspiration going and use our cameras or painting programs!

I call this game "I dare you!" and every Friday I will dare you to show me something! (Nothing nude or nasty!!) Obviously it has to be your own photos, or graphics!

I changed one thing, it doesn't have to be a NEW photo, you can pick any photo or graphics you have!

This Friday I will make it an easy one, show me a photo of a water feature (is that the right word?)

Leave the link HERE in my comments so I can come and see!

My entry is a dam in Munkfors Värmland Sverige. It is next to a factory that is now a museum. Munkfors is the sister city to my hometown of Lindsborg KS.
