Postcards and Birthday

Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Alfhild or Alva, then today is your day!

Today is my brother Jay's birthday. I hope to see him on saturday or next wednesday and take him out to eat. He is younger than me by 7 years.

Worked on my 300 postcards today. Just need stamps and then in the mail they go.

Nothing going on today. Cards and laundry. Then may start packing a bit. A bit warmer today with a 60% chance of rain tonite. Just cloudy now.

Peace. For Real.

Saying goodbye is such sweet sorrow....

Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Justina or Justus, then today is your day!

Today was a busy day. I was out the door before 11am. Had to go to the bank. I needed cash for this weekend.

The top 2 photos are of the paintings the David Perez have given me. The top one is from last year, lower one from this year.

I had meds to pick up in Abilene. I have refilled every med I take in the last 2 days. That sucks. And costs tons of money. Sure am glad I don't live in a socialist country where they actually care about their citizens and take care of them instead of here where politicians only take care of themselves and their cronies. Will be surprised if Willie does not get p.o. at what I spent.

On the way to and from Abilene the views were beautiful. There were 2 fields of baled hay that the little bit of sun that was out made them look cool. Wanted a photo but never stopped. There were thousands of sunflowers blooming. I did stop for on photo of them.

Back in Salina I stopped to see David Perez who goes to Wichita tonite then Guatemala on friday. He swears he will not return for 2 years. I am not happy. I will miss him but promised to keep in touch. Hard to say good bye.

I drove through the car wash today. I thought I parked in a safe place at the Red Barn yesterday, but, oh, no!!! Birds sat over my car eating walnuts and pooping all over my car. Looks much better now!! Worth every penny!

Tonite is the Open Cup final in soccer. My team is playing. I am trying to be hopeful, but after they way they played last weekend.............(PS: My team won!! Breaking a record. This is their first year in the MLS and they won away from home and they beat last years champions. Life is sweet! I was on the edge of my seat all nite!)

Trying a new recipe for supper tonite. Hard to fix when I am clueless when Willie will be home. He is plowing our wheat ground in preparation for sowing the new crop. (PS: Supper was great! Called Bubble Pizza. Easy as pie!)

Weather is still nice. A bit warmer last nite but today was cloudy and mild. A bit of rain east of us but we have a chance every day through next monday. I saw 5 raindrops on the way back from Abilene.

Peace. For Real.

Not much going on....

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Samuel, then today is your day! This is the beginning of Week 36 of the year.

Monday was a quiet day. Just did nothing special. Then monday nite my cinema class started for the fall semester. The theme is 'Sex, Gender, and the Movies'. We discussed what traits are generally male or female. We watched a movie from 1941 called 'Turnabout' and part of a more recent one called 'Its Pat'. I liked Turnabout' but hated 'Its Pat'. We have 2 'real' students, Katie and Ty, and 3 auditing students, me, Gerry, and John. Glad to be on campus again.

Today I worked. Marsha was out of town 'goofing off' so I worked for her. Am really glad she got to go have some fun! It was a quiet day. Worked on some postcards --- 270 of them!! Will take me a couple of days here at home to address, stamp, and write a message on them. Gave 2 tours.

Chris came in to the Red Barn to share some good news!! He won $1000 in the lottery! He is going to have his car worked on. It drives but needs some work. How fun for him! Told him I would give him money to play for me. I am never lucky!!

Our weather is beyond wonderful! Gets in the lower to mid 50s at nite. I have a blanket and quilt on last nite. Great sleeping weather. Daytime is pleasant --- no humidity, light breeze, few clouds. Love it! But there is rain in the forecast. One report says through monday off and on.

Question. Why is it my 'better' half insists on turning to the western tv channel (that I detest) and then falls asleep? And here I sit watching something I hate while he sleeps. Must use my best stealthy movements to steal back the remote!!!

Quiet day....

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Albert or Albertina, then today is your day! This is the end of Week 35 of the year.

I am having a quiet day. Was suppose to unlock the Red Barn but then Marsha went over there and I did not have to. Kind of nice.

Got some bad news this morning, just cannot say. I am upset but nothing I can do. I wish I could but not sure my help would be wanted. I hope all will be fine.

I met friends for lunch. Good food and good conversation. Chris was not working today. He is now mostly working during the week.

I took the long way home from work and took a ton of photos. Selections follow.

Peace. For Real.

Funeral, frustration, & whatever

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Albert or Albertina, then today is your day!

I am not having fun and yet I have good days. Last thursday I went to a funeral in Parsons KS. It is a 3 hour drive one way. Went with an aunt and uncle. Our cousin Manuel Perez died last monday after a massive stroke. He and his wife had 6 children of their own plus they had 88 foster kids. I think the adopted a couple of them and most always thought of them as mom and dad. Very nice funeral. And it was quite international. Many Hispanics, of course, many blacks, a few Asian, and then the rest of us. My grandmother had 5 sisters. She and each of her sisters had a descendent attending the funeral. That was pretty special. I got to visit with 2 cousins I had not seen since I was a child. A sad but good day.

But. I came home to find my laptop dying. It started to load and then I got the 'blue screen of death'. That is a black screen with blue coloured text. It would start to boot up and then crash. I was able to sign on in 'safe mode' and take lots of photos and documents off and on to a couple of flash drives. What a frickin' mess. I took it in on friday. They think it may just be a Windows glitch. I can only hope so......

Friday was Swedish group. We had a Swedish lesson. It was fun! We are sure going to miss our teacher. Especially when I take over. No wonder we are losing members!

I spent all friday afternoon with David Perez. We ate Chinese food and did some shopping. And took my laptop in to be fixed. He leaves next week for a day or two in Wichita with David Friday. Then he flies home to Guatemala. I will surely miss him. He thinks it might be 2 years till he returns. I hope not!! Before we said our last goodbye, David gave me a painting he had done. There were 4 new ones and he let me choose my fave. I love it. WHEN and IF my camera works with this dang laptop, I will share a photo. Just goes to show you if you send out good and loving energy you will get back good and loving energy. Too bad not everyone I know would get that.

While we shopped on friday, I bought an iPod. I have no music at work. Or there is a radio but stations I hate. We have nothing in this area that is worth listening to. I also have a Sirius radio that I am thinking of not renewing. It is atrociously expensive. I only listen to 2 stations so why bother. Just use my iPod. But. I cannot set it up until I get my other laptop back. Not going to mess with it on this one.

I worked today. I had not one phone call or visitor, except for the board president who came in to say hi. I got lots of my work caught up. Working an extra day this week so should be up to date.

I asked to go out to eat tonite and Willie actually said yes. What a shock. We went to the Sirloin Stockade. Fair food, but great rolls  with cheese. And I had the absolute best bread pudding ever, still hot. I should have made a meal just out of it!! And we took the new truck to town. First time I got to ride in it. Nice ride!!! Might take it to town tomorrow!!

Our weather has been good. Today was cloudy almost all day and cleared tonite. It was misty this morning. And it got pretty cool tonite and colder yet tomorrow. I am hoping for an early and long autumn, a long winter, a long spring, and very short summer. Already 63F now. Good sleeping.

I tried to transfer my photos from my camera tonite and it will not work. Now what???? I took lots of photos today. Will try a reboot later. Very frustration. At least I got them off my Blackberry.

Tonite I am watching my Seattle Sounders football team. God forbid I could actually see a game live! That would be asking too much. Was on 2 channel for pay and another that was blacked out. Now watching a rerun. Already know all that happened. A Twitter friend always does a play by play. My fave player who has been quite ill and missed 2 games it now out for the next game for getting a yellow card. Dang.

Sikta framåt!

Peace. For Real.

Go Sounders!!!

Lunch & College

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Östen, then today is your day!

Weather has been awful. This afternoon the humidity was 76%. I walked around the Bethany College campus and was drenched in sweat. Not a hint of a breeze. Showers south of us but will probably not get here. Can see lots of lightning from our yard. Cooler tomorrow. Yay! Last nite there were horrible storms all around us but we only ended up with half an inch of rain.

I was going to be slacker all day today and then Sally called. Asked me to lunch. How could I say ‘no’??? So I met her at Jalisco’s. Had a good visit. I might drive to Denver with her in a couple of weeks. Only for a couple of days. It is the anniversary of her mom’s death ten years ago. Probably won’t get to see my family there but will try for an afternoon.

After lunch I went to college to enroll. I am taking ‘Sex, Gender, & the Movis’. Starts next monday nite.

Movie and health

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Bartolomeus, then today is your day!

Weather has been awesome. At nite it has been 50s and gorgeous during the day. Rain is now in nw Kansas. We have 50% tuesday nite.

I mostly did nothing today. Kind of lazy after a long day. I did get word that a cousin in Parsons KS. He had not been ill and then had a severe heart attack and life support. Stopped life support on sunday. He was very nice. I am glad they came to the last family reunion. He and his wife had several children, but they also took in foster kids…….over 100 of them.

My acupuncturist has started selling some health products. I bought one called XM3. I drink an ounce every morning. It is supposed to boost your metabolism, decrease appetite, etc. She did lots of research and this was the best in her opinion. I think it might be working. I am not yearning for a nap every afternoon. Nor am I searching for food, especially late at nite. I also take 1 ounce of flax seed oil every morning. My skin is so dry and it is supposed to help. Helped a friend of mine. My skin is less dry than it was. This is just food for thought and I am not advising anyone to do either of these things.

In McPherson I saw several teams of kids practicing football (soccer). Nice to see them playing something different than the same ole same ole.

I met John and Eric at Tres Amigos for supper. I had Pollo Bandido. It is just awesome. My new favourite there! INFO: Pollo Bandido - tender chicken strips perfectly seasoned and grilled and smothered with our famous cheese sauce served with Mexican Rice, Fried Beans and tortillas.

Tonite was our last summer movie class. Fall semester starts next week…..IF I get in town to enroll!! We watched a movie called Eraserhead. I knew nothing about this movie. Nothing. To me it was pointless. I kept waiting for there to be a point. Or for reality to set in. IF someone had clued me in it was like a dream, then I MIGHT have enjoyed it more. And I am eternally grateful this movie was in black and white. I would have had to leave and go home if colour had been involved.

Weekend News

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Bartolomeus, then today is your day!

Weather has been awesome. At nite it has been 50s and gorgeous during the day. I am spoiled and hoping it lasts!! Rain coming our way starting as early as tonite.

I met with an accountant friend saturday morning. We are working on changing my mutual funds. Found out they are in a ‘bad’ kind of share. I hope to reinvest and get a little better return. And I need to take my money from Mom and do more than just let it sit in savings.

After our meeting John and I ate at the Swedish Crown. There was a large table of bikers next to us. I got a photo of their bikes outside. We always have many bikers in town. There is a motorcycle museum near us.

I worked saturday afternoon but got nothing accomplished. David Perez and I had a long visit. He leaves the Red Barn today and leaves the US next week. Time with him is precious. Then Marsha and Mary came in and we had a gab fest. Good to do that. Then 2 late tours who stayed to chat forever. Home 30 min. late.

Sunday morning John and I headed to Lawrence KS to visit his daughter and granddaughter who are here from Houston. They are staying with his ex-wife. They are pretty much family to me. His granddaughter is soo pretty. She turns 2 this week. We then ate at the Indian Palace where his stepdaughter joined us. I had shrimp, rice, nan bread, and a yoghurt sauce/dip. Awesome food. We have nothing even close to this near me.

Lawrence is a university town about 3 hrs. from me. I love it there. They refused to let a mall come into the city so their downtown is incredible. Several blocks of unique shops. Salina on the other hand has had 2 malls. It killed their downtown that is only mostly offices now. One mall is gone and the other sucks. Lawrence has lots of art and energy. I love being there. And with all the students, great people watching.

I was really tired last nite so I went to bed really early and slept late. Feel better. But my soccer game was to tape last nite. It did not. IF I had stayed up I would have caught that. They usually rerun again the next day but not this time. I am not happy.

Swedish Group/lunch

-Varmt välkommen hit-

If your name is Jon or Jonna, then today is your day!

Weather has been ok. No rain and cooler than normal. Last nite it got down to 58F. Very nice. Good sleeping!!

Top photo is Willie’s new truck. It is very nice.

Had Swedish group today. One of our members talked about a minister from his church from many years ago. He had lots of photos. It was so interesting. Not only is our Swedish ‘teacher’ moving away, but the 2 men who set up our tables are resigning. They are getting older and weaker. I have no idea what we are going to do. I guess I can lug the tables from wherever they are stored to our room. I will then have to be in bed for a couple of days with back pain, but…….. There just is no one else. Seems there is always something not going right. We are meeting in the basement now. Nice there but oh, so much work to do coffee there. Have to get a cart to haul all the coffee pots, etc. down there. Then haul them back upstairs. Takes time.

My church is celebrating 140 years this weekend. They had lots of old photos laying about and I took some photos of them. I had maybe planned to attend service this sunday but I am going somewhere else. I find it hard to attend my church. I am always alone. Every one else has family, kids, spouse, or a friend to sit with. I just do not attend anymore.

I met my friend Connie in Salina and we drove to Abilene for lunch and errand. We ate at the Kirby House. It is a very old historic house that is now a restaurant. The food is awesome! We had a ham, cheese, and broccoli quiche, sallad, and walnut coconut bread. Then we did some shopping. Went to an accessory shop, a dress shop with waaaay too many old women clothes, and a decorating shop with awesome things. Took a couple of photos in there.

Then home. I stopped in one store looking for an iPod. They did not have what I wanted. Maybe wait till I am back in Wichita. Shopping in Salina is pathetic. I also stopped at my health food shop for some stuff. Love their garden area in the front. Be nice to sit there.

Monas Dare - Something Edible

This little "Game", "Competition" or whatever I shall call it - it is not a contest! I came up with this idea (Maybe some will think it is corny... silly or whatever, but then they do not have to join so there! lol) I just thought this could be a fun way to get to know each other, get our inspiration going and use our cameras or painting programs!

I call this game "I dare you!" and every Friday I will dare you to show me something! (Nothing nude or nasty!!) Obviously it has to be your own photos, or graphics!

I changed one thing, it doesn't have to be a NEW photo, you can pick any photo or graphics you have!

This Friday I will make it an easy one, show me a photo of something eatable!

Leave the link HERE in my comments so I can come and see!

My entry is 2 photos. The first is a bowl of crayfish. The second is me eating them!! And we had the proper alcohalic beverages for a crayfish party. And we sang a Swedish drinking song also. What great fun it was to actually do this rather than read about it at home. These were taken in 2006 in Bjärred Skåne.
